Evening Prayers (5 Minutes)

EVENING PRAYERS
(Five Minutes)

Blessed is our God, always now and forever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Glory to you, O God, glory to you.

O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth
who are present everywhere and fill all things,
the treasury of blessings and giver of life,
come and abide within us, cleanse of from all impurity
and save our souls, o Good one.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (3 times)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit now and forever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

All Holy Trinity, have mercy on me.
Lord, forgive our sins. Master pardon our transgressions.
Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for your name’s sake.

Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit Now and forever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom, and the power and the glory
of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
now and forever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Now that the day has come to a close I thank You, Lord, and entreat that the evening with the night may be sinless; grant this to us, Savior, and save us.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Now that the day has passed I glorify You, Master, and entreat that the evening with the night may be free of stumbling, grant this to us, Savior, and save us.

Now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Now that the day has run its course we praise You, Holy One, and entreat that the evening with the night may be undisturbed by evil; grant this to us, O Savior, and save us.

Lord, our God, by Your goodness and mercy forgive all the sins I have committed this day in thought, word, and deed. Grant me peaceful and undisturbed sleep, and deliver us from all temptations and attacks of the evil one. Raise us up again in the morning that we may glorify You. For You are blessed, together with Your Son and Your Holy Spirit, now and forever and the ages of ages. Amen.

Christ our God, You who at all times and in every hour are worshipped and glorified in heaven and on earth, long suffering, generous in mercy and rich in compassion, loving to the righteous and merciful to the sinner. You who call all to salvation through the promise of blessings to come. Lord in this hour accept our prayer and direct our lives according to Your commandments. Sanctify our souls, purify our bodies, correct our thoughts, cleanse our minds and deliver us from all affliction, evil and distress. Encompass us with your holy angels so that guided and guarded by their power we may reach the unity of the faith and come to the knowledge of Your unapproachable glory for You are blessed forever. Amen.

Let us pray for peace in the world.  (“Lord have mercy” after each petition)

For all faithful and Orthodox believers.

For our Father and Archbishop Methodios and all our brothers and sisters in Christ

For our country, our president and those in public service.

For our parents, our spouses, our brothers and sisters,  relatives and friends, and all people.

For those who hate us and those who love us.

For those who work with us and those who serve us.

For those who have asked us, unworthy as we are, to pray for them.

For travelers by land, sea, air and space.

For prisoners and captives.

For those who are hungry, suffering, sick and in need.

For those who departed from this life in the hope of the resurrection.

And for ourselves let us pray “Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy.”

The Lord is my shepherd I shall lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil.
For You are with me, Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies,
You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Into your hands, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, I commit my soul and my body.
Bless me, have mercy on me, and grant me eternal life.

Through the prayers of our holy fathers and mothers,
Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

In my last sermon, I mentioned how I want to challenge each of us to reflect on 1) how we pray, 2) why we pray, 3) what we pray, and 4) what the ultimate purpose of prayer is. I hope that by the end of this series we will understand prayer better and begin praying in a more serious, disciplined manner. Read more »
