Morning Prayers (20 Minutes)

Blessed is our God, always now and forever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Glory to you, O God, glory to you.

O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth
who are present everywhere and fill all things,
the treasury of blessings and giver of life,
come and abide within us, cleanse of from all impurity
and save our souls, o Good one.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (3 times)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit
now and forever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

All Holy Trinity, have mercy on me.
Lord, forgive our sins. Master pardon our transgressions.
Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for your name’s sake.

Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit
Now and forever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom, and the power and the glory
Of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Now and forever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

We praise you and thank you, Almighty God, the Father of light, that You have again shown to us the light of this day. We pray that You forgive our sins and accept our prayer in Your great mercy, for we seek refuge in You, the merciful and almighty God. Shine in our hearts the light of Christ, the Sun of Righteousness. Enlighten our minds and our whole beings that we may live according to Your commandments and serve You in all that we do and say. For You are the source of life and light, and to You we give praise and thanksgiving, to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Christ the true light, who enlightens and sanctifies every person that comes into the world, let your divine light shine in us that we may see Your face and follow Your commandments. Lord, You said “I am the light of the world. Whoever believes in me shall not walk in darkness but shall walk in the light of life.” Let Your light shine in us, that we may experience life, and make us instruments in sharing and shining Your light to all those we encounter today. For you are blessed to the ages of ages. Amen.

Christ our God, You who at all times and in every hour are worshipped and glorified in heaven and on earth, long suffering, generous in mercy and rich in compassion, loving to the righteous and merciful to the sinner. You who call all to salvation through the promise of blessings to come. Lord in this hour accept our prayer and direct our lives according to Your commandments. Sanctify our souls, purify our bodies, correct our thoughts, cleanse our minds and deliver us from all affliction, evil and distress. Encompass us with your holy angels so that guided and guarded by their power we may reach the unity of the faith and come to the knowledge of Your unapproachable glory for You are blessed forever. Amen.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and good will to all.

Lord, open my lips and my mouth shall show forth your praise.

Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
    of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked advance against me
    to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes
    who will stumble and fall.
Though an army besiege me,
    my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
    even then I will be confident.

One thing I ask from the Lord,
    this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
    and to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble
    he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
    and set me high upon a rock.

Then my head will be exalted
    above the enemies who surround me;
at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;
    I will sing and make music to the Lord.

Hear my voice when I call, Lord;
    be merciful to me and answer me.
My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”
    Your face, Lord, I will seek.
Do not hide your face from me,
    do not turn your servant away in anger;
    you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
    God my Savior.
10 Though my father and mother forsake me,
    the Lord will receive me.
11 Teach me your way, Lord;
    lead me in a straight path
    because of my oppressors.
12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
    for false witnesses rise up against me,
    spouting malicious accusations.

13 I remain confident of this:
    I will see the goodness of the Lord
    in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
    be strong and take heart
    and wait for the Lord

Psalm 63

O God, You are my God,
    early do I seek you;
I thirst for you,
    my whole being longs for you,
as in a dry and parched land
    where there is no water.

I have seen you in the sanctuary
    and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life,
    my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
    and in your name I will lift up my hands.
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
    with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

On my bed I remember you;
    I think of you throughout the watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
    I sing in the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you;
    your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 103

Bless the Lord, my soul;
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Bless the Lord, my soul,
    and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
    and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
    so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The Lord works righteousness
    and justice for all the oppressed.

He made known his ways to Moses,
    his deeds to the people of Israel:
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
    slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
    or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

13 As a father has compassion on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
    he remembers that we are dust.
15 The life of mortals is like grass,
    they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
    and its place remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
    the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
    and his righteousness with their children’s children—
18 with those who keep his covenant
    and remember to obey his precepts.

19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
    and his kingdom rules over all.

20 Bless the Lord, you his angels,
    you mighty ones who do his bidding,
    who obey his word.
21 Bless the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,
    you his servants who do his will.
22 Bless the Lord, all his works
    everywhere in his dominion.

Bless the Lord, my soul.

  • - Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy Name.

God is the Lord and has revealed Himself to us, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

  • - This is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it.

God is the Lord and has revealed Himself to us, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

PSALM 50 (A Prayer of Repentance)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Behold I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sins did my mother conceive me.

Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.

Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.

 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy on Me a Sinner. (12 times)

THE MAGNIFICANT (The Virgin Mary’s Hymn to God)

To the Theotokos and the Mother of Light, let us sing hymns of praise:

My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoice in God my savior,
For He has regarded the lowly estate of His handmaiden.
Henceforth, all generation will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.
His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
For He has shown strength with his arm,
and he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts,
He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy,
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his posterity forever.

You are honored more than the cherubim,
And you have more glory when compared to the seraphim.
You, without corruption, gave birth to God the Logos,
You are the Theotokos, you do we magnify.

A DAILY PRAYER OF METROPOLITAN FILARET

Lord, grant me to greet this coming day in peace.
Help me in all things to rely upon Your holy will.
In every hour of the day, reveal Your will to me.
Bless my dealings with all who surround me.
Teach me to treat all that comes to me throughout this day with peace of soul and with firm conviction that Your will governs all.

In all my deeds and words, guide my thoughts and feelings.
In unforeseen events, let me not forget that all things are under Your care.
Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others.
Give me the strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day with all that it shall bring.
Direct my will according to Your will.

Teach me to pray.
Pray Yourself within me.
Transform my life into a living prayer to you. Amen.

THE PRAYER OF FRANCIS OF ASSISI

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let be bring love.
Where there is sadness, let me bring joy.
Where there is despair, let me bring hope.
Where there is injury, let me bring healing and pardon.
Where there is doubt, let me bring faith.
Where there is darkness, let me bring light.

Yes Divine Master, help me not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console.
To be understood, as to understand.
To be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving, that we receive.
It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned.
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Through the prayers of our holy fathers and mothers, Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

PRAYER IS CONNECTING AND COMMUNING WITH GOD - Part 2
October 27, 2024
PRAYER is Connecting and Communing with God, and today I offer Part 2 in my sermon series on Prayer. In my last sermon, I mentioned how I want to challenge each of us to reflect on 1) how we pray, 2) why we pray, 3) what we pray, and 4) what the ultimate purpose of prayer is. I hope that by the end of this series we will understand prayer better and begin praying in a more serious, disciplined manner. Read more »
